Our Story

As more young families are moving into our area, there is a need for more schooling options for our young children. Philos provides children an education that is based on a biblical foundation, where children thrive and discover the beauty of God in all subjects. An education based on the natural phases of child development, where all subjects are taught as a whole, training students in logic and reasoning, so that they are able to think and reason through a God centered worldview, not the cultural worldview!

Our Beginning

A small group of concerned parents and grandparents met in the summer of 2022 to form a task group to discuss the feasibility of starting a Christian school in Chapel Hill. After some initial research into classical Christian education, we quickly determined that the new school would be a classical Christian school, Philos Classical Christian School

Philos joined the Association of Classical Christian Schools to help us on our journey. Over the next 12 months, our group conducted surveys in the community, continued researching CCE, attended CCE conferences, talked with other Christian School founders and Heads of School.

By September 2023, the task group morphed into an implementation group. Philos opened in August 2024 with grades K through 3.

PCCS has received significant encouragement and support from ACCS, other heads of school and founders, Herzog Foundation and area churches. We have followed the specific guidance and direction from ACCS and Herzog Foundation in the formation of PCCS.

Mission

The Mission of Philos is to be a light to the children of God, partnering with parents through purposeful classical Christian education, teaching a Biblical worldview where God is the creator of all things, so that they thrive throughout life in God’s sovereign will.

Vision

The Philos vision is to prepare students for life through academically challenging curriculum in order to make life decisions grounded in God’s will, providing students access and opportunity to quality classical Christian education through 12th grade.

Why We Do What We Do

As we look at the world and culture in which we live, people are searching for answers to questions about life, why I am here, and purpose. As God is THE Creator and central to life itself, we believe that classical Christian education is the most effective tool we have to pass on the faith to the next generation. Therefore, we help Christian families who want their children raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord by teaching what is true, good, and beautiful so that their children are rightly oriented to God and the world he has created.

The classical model provides more than simply an educated student; rather a student who thrives in God’s sovereign will and knows HOW to think rather than WHAT to think, making life’s Godly decisions rather than the cultural decisions.

I invite you to enroll your child and join the Philos Family, where we partner with you, growing your child in wisdom, knowledge, and the truth of God.
